Ethernet hardware and its systems :How does it work? I choose this subject because of one statement (section 8.3 pg. 87) in the text of this course. "A NIC contains sufficient electronic circuitry to allow it to operate independent of the CPU - The NIC can transmit or receive bits without using the computer's CPU to handle each bit." I surmise from this statement that the NIC does some processing and storage on its own separate from the CPU which if you think about it is very different from other cards on a computer.
